Just Eat and Dia, a leading grocery chain in Spain, have announced a partnership to deliver groceries and convenience goods, starting with about 50 stores in Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Seville and Bilbao. The partnership will be extended to more Spanish cities in the coming months, offering nearly three million Spanish Just Eat consumers the opportunity to enjoy Dia’s large product offering for on demand delivery.
Following several grocery and convenience partnerships in Spain in the past year, Just Eat Spain analysed the evolution of this growing vertical. The data revealed that 63% of Spaniards already have used the service to order groceries online in the past year, a trend that is expected to accelerate even further in the coming year. The majority of consumers (40%) like the convenience of on demand delivery as they’re able to order items they need, from basic convenience goods to a missing ingredient, at the click of a button for quick delivery.
The delivery of orders made by Dia via the Just Eat app and website will be performed by a fleet of Just Eat couriers using over 1,200 electric vehicles. Just Eat employs their couriers in Spain and has previously signed a pioneering national collective bargaining agreement with unions UGT and CCOO to set the barrier for appropriate labour conditions for couriers in the food delivery sector. Just Eat has over 2,000 employed couriers in Spain throughout the country and fully complies with the Spanish Rider Law.
Patrik Bergareche from Just Eat Takeaway.com: “Last year we announced our commitment to expanding our existing restaurant offering with other food related verticals. This partnership with Dia is part of that strategy, and we are delighted that Just Eat users now can have their favourite Dia groceries delivered quickly and conveniently.”
Ricardo Álvarez, CEO of Día España, "At Dia Spain we have the clear objective to be closer to our customers every day. That is why we strive to provide them with different alternatives and solutions that allow them to enjoy Dia products. Thanks to this alliance with Just Eat, we are expanding our home delivery channels and we continue to strengthen our services also online."
